Dragon Lake King’s Course – China

This stunning mountain golf course is located northeast of Guangzhou, China, overlooking a major reservoir for the city. As part of the Dragon Lake development, this is the second 27-hole golf course on site, that also includes 2 Clubhouses, a 5 star resort hotel, luxury villas and 9 exquisite mansions set on a peninsula in the reservoir.

The newer King’s Course was designed by IMG Design and offers a golfing experience likely not to be forgotten. Opened in June 2011, the course is stunning as it has 280m of elevation over the 27 holes and nearly every hole has views of the turquoise water of the reservoir situated below the golf course. The IMG Design was crafted on this challenging site by trying to be as sensitive to the existing landforms as was possible, winding its way along narrow ridgelines and through deep valleys, using all of the natural features to great effect, such as the massive rock outcroppings found during construction. The site conditions resulted in some daunting carries from certain tees, so most golfers should avoid playing the back tees. Accuracy is rewarded as most fairways are surprisingly wide and bunkering is moderate since the elevation changes are enough challenge for the majority.

The course has won a few awards and is regularly rated as one of the best golf destinations in Southern China.
